Mediterranean Golf Cruise Includes 2012 Monaco Grand Prix

A ‘Red Bull Racing’ F1 supporters group on a Mediterranean GolfAhoy golf cruise aboard Silversea’s Silver Spirit sailing from Barcelona to Rome, May 24th to May 31st 2012, includes an overnight in Monte Carlo to coincide with the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix.

The newest vessel in the Silversea family, Silver Spirit offers the distinctive luxuries and celebrated lifestyle Silversea guests adore, plus enticing enhancements including Stars Supper Club, an Asian-themed restaurant, an expansive 8,300-square-foot spa, a resort-style pool, four whirlpools, and the largest suites in the Silversea fleet — 95% with private verandas.

The Monaco Grand Prix held each year on the Circuit de Monaco, is considered to be one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world alongside the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (with which it forms the Triple Crown of Motorsport). The history, spectacle and glamour result in the race being considered the jewel of the Formula One crown.

The Grand Prix is 78 laps on a 3.340 km (2.075 mi) circuit, races around the narrow, winding streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine, which includes the famous harbor.

The 2012 Monaco Grand Prix will be held from 24th May till 27th May.

Formula 1 Racing Champion Mark Webber

In 2010 Mark Webber became the first Australian to win the Monaco Grand Prix since Sir Jack Brabham who won in 1959.

Webber led a ‘Red Bull’ 1-2 with his team-mate Sebastian Vettel finishing second. “Absolutely incredible, for sure this is the greatest day of my life,” Webber said immediately after the race. Webber led from pole to finish for his second victory in a row and fourth of his career.

The native of Queanbeyan, New South Wales was a relative late comer to motorsports having, in true Aussie style, embraced a host of other sports in his youth. But despite not taking to carting until he was 14, racing quickly became Mark’s passion.

At 16, he became New South Wales State Champion and after enjoying more success in Formula Fords, he rose to the first of a number of tough career challenges and moved to the UK.

Mark graduated to Formula 3 in 1997 and the victories he scored there earned admiring glances from many quarters and led the young hopeful to a works sports car drive for Mercedes where he raced successfully before a return to open-wheel competition in 2000.

After a successful 2001 season, in which he was test driver for Benetton in F1 and raced to F3000 victory in Imola, Monaco and Magny-Cours for Super Nova, Webber finally landed an F1 seat, with Minardi, in 2002. A fifth place finish and two points on home soil in Melbourne marked an outstanding debut in the top echelon and further gutsy performances during the year meant Webber was soon on the move – first to Jaguar Racing in 2003 and then to Williams, where, in 2005, he claimed his first podium finish at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The defining move though came in 2007, when the Aussie was announced as a Red Bull Racing driver.

“A fair percentage of the 27 million active golfers in North America are avid Formula 1 Grand Prix fans”, says Lori Webber, co-owner and Managing Director at GolfAhoy Golf Cruises.

“Red Bull is using golf to build visibility and it’s a popular energy drink on the golf course, particularily on the last five holes, because that is where golfers tend to make the most mistakes due to physical and mental fatigue. Our ‘Red Bull Racing’ F1 supporters group attending the Monaco Grand Prix during the GolfAhoy Barcelona to Rome Mediterranean golf cruise will be rooting for the Red Bull Racing team again in 2012”.

On the endorsement front, PGA Tour pros Peter Jacobsen and Chris DiMarco are among the myriad athletes who have contracts with Red Bull.
