Honolulu. Ko Olina Golf Club. Golf Digest has recognized Ko Olina as one of the “Top 75 Resort Courses in the USA”. The course includes 16 water features on eight holes, multi-tiered greens, and well-manicured fairways. Ko Olina will challenge golfers to use every club in the bag with its demanding par-3s, well-bunkered greens, and gentle trade winds. Located on the island’s west coast inside the Ko Olina Resort, the Ted Robinson-designed course is one of the only resort courses on Oahu. The par-72 layout features generous landing areas, cascading waterfalls, and a picturesque ocean location. Ko Olina measures 6867 yards from the back tees and is always superbly maintained. Ko Olina opened in January 1990, hosting the LPGA Tour’s Hawaiian Ladies Open from 1990 to 1995, the Senior PGA Tour’s Ko Olina Senior Invitational in 1992, and the Fields Open in Hawaii from 2006 to 2008. Ko Olina was also home to the LPGA LOTTE Championship for many years.
Honolulu. Royal Hawaiian. (OPTIONAL) Formerly known as Luana Hills, Royal Hawaiian is located on the east side of Oahu at the base of the Ko’olau Mountain Range, with colossal Mt. Olomana its background. The course is carved through a tropical rainforest known for its breathtaking views. Royal Hawaiian Golf Course is best described as playing golf in Jurassic Park without the dinosaurs! The astounding scenery begins immediately with a 1.5-mile drive through a magnificent rainforest to get to the clubhouse. When you finally arrive, there is no doubt that you will be amazed that a golf course could be built in such a paradise. The Pete and Perry Dye designed layout has contrasting nines, with a front side with rugged mountainous terrain and an open rolling terrain back nine. With a slope 138 from the back tees and about 6600 yards, this demanding track is an exciting mix of beauty and challenge. Royal Hawaiian should be on every golfer’s bucket list!
Honolulu. (Day 2). Hawaii Prince Golf Club. Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, this unique course is the only one in Hawaii to feature 27 holes. It occupies 270 acres of sheer beauty and offers stunning views of the rain-carved Waianae Mountains. Hawaii Prince is located about 35 minutes from Waikiki on the Ewa Plains. Each of the 9’s are designated “A”, “B” and “C”, and the abundant number of water features is the dominant characteristic of this track. Within the property of the golf course, there are 10 lakes that come into play in over half of the holes. In addition to its 27 holes, the Hawaii Prince Golf Club sports an excellent practice facility and features a full-service clubhouse with a terrific restaurant.
Hilo. Volcano Golf Club. Volcano Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72, 6547-yard course. It is in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, making it an ever-scenic 30-mile drive from Hilo. Volcano also offers full restaurant and bar facilities. As one of the world’s most unusual courses, it is set on the rim of the active Kilauea volcanic crater, lying in the cool highlands 4,000 feet above sea level. This makes for sweeping vistas of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea Mountains – typically snow-capped during winter- and offers crisp, clean air for a delightful game of golf for players of all abilities. Golfers looking for a peaceful golf course offering ample time for concentration and a relaxing round should try the Volcano Club. Although flat, the course does have some rolling hills, which can cause uneven lies. Almost all the trees and some of the greens are elevated. The most challenging hole on the course is the 425-yard par four 15th, which requires a tee shot up a dogleg fairway with tall pine trees guarding the turn. It takes approximately 45 minutes to get to the course from the Hilo cruise ship terminal.
Maui. Kapalua Bay Course. Not far from Lahaina, Kapalua Bay Course offers terrific views and challenging play for golfers at every skill level. Well-groomed fairways and greens keep Kapalua Bay Course challenging yet friendly, and the staff can provide tips and tricks for playing your best round. Kapalua Bay Course is a terrific choice for your regular rounds of golf or a new destination when you visit Lahaina.
Kauai. The “Ocean Course” at Hōkūala. (Formerly known as Kauai Lagoons) is a lush, 750-acre resort carefully secluded in the southwest corner of the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Fairways weave through mango and guava tree forests along imposing ocean cliffs and over promontories high above the harbor. It is said that when legendary golfer and architect Jack Nicklaus created the original Kiele Course in the late 1980’s, the terrain lent itself so well to his vision that he made a single change to his original design. In 2011, Jack Nicklaus was again called upon to redesign the back nine of his famed Kiele course. All new greens, white silica sand bunkers, and three new holes are included. Arguably, the best new feature is an additional ocean hole that is now the centerpiece of the longest stretch of continuous ocean holes of any course in Hawaii, making four fabulous holes that provide over 1/2 mile of unobstructed oceanfront.
Kona. Mauna Kea Golf Course. The multi-award-winning Mauna Kea Golf Course has led the way in course beauty and design standards since 1964, solidifying its place in Hawaii’s history as one of the most scenic and favored golf courses. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the 18-hole championship course presents dramatic changes in elevation, large undulating greens, and 120 well-placed bunkers. The spectacular signature hole is the famous third, where surging inlet water races to meet the rocky shoreline, affording one of the most dramatic and breathtaking views of any course today. Without changing the essential character of his father’s design, Rees Jones Inc. re-planted the championship course with highly efficient ultra-dwarf Tifeagle Bermudagrass on the greens and Tifway 419 hybrid Bermudagrass on the tees, fairways and roughs. State-of-the-art irrigation systems, bunker liners, and advanced drainage improvements keep the golf course in top shape and even save on environmental resources. Mauna Kea includes world-class practice facilities to elevate your game while enjoying epic vistas of the Kohala Coast’s rolling waves, panoramic sea and land views, snow-capped Mauna Kea Volcano, rugged lava beds, and the sparkling blue Pacific. Golfers can also casually relax at the new Number 3 Restaurant after golf. You will want to order some pupus and a nice cold one from the tap, or maybe try the signature Mauna Kea cocktail to toast after playing a round at such a stunning course.
Ensenada, Mexico. Bajamar Ocean Front Golf Club. Bajamar Ocean Front Golf Club offers three different nines played in 18-hole combinations. The club is one of northwest Mexico’s premier golfing destinations, earning the title of being the “Pebble Beach south of the border.” The nines have a traditional links design that gives it the feel of a golf course in the British Isles. The landscape of rolling dunes and rocky cliffs perched above the coast is ideal for links-style golf. The Vista/Ocean has the most variety of the three courses since it combines a desert front nine with a seaside back nine. The front nine is challenging, but the back nine is particularly memorable for its stunning views, with five holes that are perched directly above the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific.
*The list of golf courses included in any GolfAhoy package may be subject to change if any golf course accepts a conflicting national or international event or for any other reason. Should such a situation occur, GolfAhoy will endeavor to book a golf course of comparable standard, and all booked guests will be notified of the change and replacement venue at the earliest opportunity.
